By completing badge activities you reviewed your "environmental literacy" even while participating in activities not directly connected to this theme. This badge emphasises eco-friendly behaviours shall be a natural part of any Erasmus+ and NFE activity.

Completing an eco-lab through the Cities of Learning platform can offer individuals a variety of opportunities to learn and take action towards environmental sustainability. Here are a few examples of what you can do and learn through these eco-labs:

Learn about environmental issues: Through completing an eco-lab, you can gain a better understanding of environmental challenges and their causes. This can include topics such as climate change, pollution, waste reduction, sustainable living (depending on the workshop you will attend)

Gain practical skills: Completing an eco-lab can provide you with practical skills and knowledge you can apply in your daily life. For example, you may learn how to compost, how to upcycle trash that was supposed to be thrown away, how to conserve local biodiversity and how to create everyday cosmetics using natural ingredients.

Open digital badges are digital certificate that encrypts information related to the learning process, achievements or completeness of the badge receiver. It is an innovative digital tool to recognise learning and skills that are often too difficult to measure within non-formal education.

A compost-making workshop is a hands-on, interactive session that teaches participants how to turn organic waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Composting is the process of breaking down organic materials, such as food scraps and yard waste, into a dark, crumbly substance that can be used to enrich soil and support plant growth.

Through non-formal education, participants will learn about the importance of composting as a sustainable practice that reduces waste and supports healthy ecosystems. They will gain practical skills for setting up and maintaining a composting system and will learn about the different types of organic materials that can be composted.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to create a compost pile or bin out of pallets, and how to monitor and adjust their compost to ensure optimal conditions for decomposition. They will also learn about the benefits of compost, such as improving soil health, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from landfills.

After completing the compost-making workshop, participants will have gained knowledge and skills in sustainable waste management and environmental stewardship. They will have learned how to create a valuable resource from organic waste, and how to reduce their environmental impact by diverting waste from landfills. The Pallet Composting Champion badge is awarded to individuals who have completed a compost workshop using pallets and have gained practical skills in building and maintaining a composting system. This badge represents the badge earner's commitment to sustainable waste management, environmental stewardship, and their ability to turn organic waste into a valuable soil amendment.

To earn this badge, the badge earner must have completed a compost workshop with pallets and demonstrated their understanding of the principles of composting, as well as their ability to build and maintain a compost bin using pallets. Task no.1

Attend and actively participate in a compost workshop using pallets
Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of composting, including the importance of organic matter, moisture, airflow, and temperature
Build and maintain a compost bin using pallets, following proper construction and maintenance techniques
Show a commitment to sustainability by implementing their composting skills in their own lives, or by sharing their knowledge with others
Complete a final project that demonstrates their understanding of composting with pallets, such as creating their own composting system or leading a composting workshop
Reflect on their learning and experiences throughout the workshop, and how they plan to continue using their composting skills in the future
