ONE-to-ONE Virtual Reality Career Counseling

ONE-to-ONE Virtual Reality Career Counseling

The activity will focus on organizing one-to-one career counseling sessions between young people living in rural areas and experienced professionals through the use of virtual reality (VR) technology. Participants will attend the sessions from the Youth Multicentre, where they will receive support in using VR headsets and connecting to a shared virtual workspace. This innovative approach will enable them to access high-quality career guidance and mentoring opportunities that would otherwise be difficult due to geographical barriers.

During the sessions, professionals will join remotely from their workplaces, creating an authentic and engaging mentoring environment. Using the VR platforms Horizon Workrooms and, later, Immersed, participants will meet in virtual meeting rooms where they will be able to communicate naturally, share presentations, exchange ideas, and discuss career pathways. The immersive environment will closely replicate the experience of face-to-face meetings while eliminating the need for travel for both the young participants and the professionals.

Each young participant will complete six individual career counseling sessions, each lasting one hour. Throughout these meetings, they will explore a variety of career paths, discuss educational and professional requirements, and receive personalized guidance tailored to their interests, aspirations, and future goals. The main areas of interest will include law, business administration, accounting, shipping, and sports. The sessions will also provide participants with valuable opportunities to ask questions, gain first-hand insights into different professions and workplace realities, and develop a clearer understanding of potential career opportunities.

Overall, the initiative will demonstrate the significant potential of immersive technologies to enhance career guidance services for young people living in remote and rural communities. By connecting them directly with experienced professionals in an interactive virtual environment, the project will expand access to mentoring, promote informed career decision-making, and showcase how digital innovation can help bridge geographical and social barriers in youth work.
